February update

I ran the Marathon Sports Super Sunday 5K on 2/7/10. It was not a good race for me, as I ran 23:59. This was my slowest 5K ever, discounting the Komen's 5K in Sept, where I did not really put out a full effort. My knee felt OK, so I think the conclusion to be drawn is that I'm just not in very good shape.

I did a 3 miler yesterday and felt like I was shuffling along very slowly.

So, my goal for March is to average 3 runs a week, which will - embarrassingly - be an upgrade in mileage.

  1. Ugh. Sorry it's not going well. I had arthroscopic meniscus surgery a couple years ago and though I bike to work and run a couple times a week (down from 5 or 6), it's never been the same. Finally, I went to a different doc who told me that my imperfect result is what happens in about 5% of such surgeries and that to really fix it, I'll need a big operation that I won't bore you with. However, I just finished a round of 3 SynVisk injections and am hoping that they'll help. It feels a bit better--a bit--already, but they say that optimum relief should come at around 12 weeks after my last shot...and hopefully last about a year. It's just so maddening, though, not to be able to be as strong and athletic as before. Literally and figuratively, I feel your pain.

  2. Hi Fischlipps,
Thanks for your comment. I hope the Synvisc shots work well for you. Just curious - what would the big knee operation be?
